The world of software development is undergoing a transformation, and GitKraken’s free, two-day virtual event, GitKon 2025, is set to redefine what it means to “ship responsibly in the age of AI.”
The theme of the conference is “The Builder’s Era,” and according to Jeremy Castile, VP of developer research at host company GitKraken, the event will be a celebration of makers, maintaners, mentors and development leaders. “For developers, it’s sharpen your craft, explore new tools, and learn how to work smarter with AI automation,” he said. “For leaders, it’s discover frameworks for scaling culture, measuring DevEx and leading teams through this transformation.”
The event spans two full days – Dec. 10 and 11 – with the first day dedicated to developers and the second day for leaders, all focused on the central idea that developers are—and will remain—first-class citizens in the business.
The central message from GitKraken is clear: this era is about AI assisted development, not AI replacing developers. Castile said that “the craft of software development matters now more than it ever has in the last 20 years.”
The leader’s day will feature key insights, including a dive into GitKraken’s new Insights product, which provides engineering leaders with visibility across AI impact, velocity, code quality, and developer experience.
Each day with start with a keynote. Day one features Chris Geoghegan, VP of Product from Zapier, discussing context engineering as a team sport, and how shared AI context eliminates handoffs. This session aims to help teams manage the complexity of traditional software teams—product, engineering, and now agentic AI—to maintain velocity.”When you think about it, not only do traditional software teams have a mix of product people, software engineering people, but now you throw AI and agentic AI into the mix, and we’ve just got to make sure that we can continue to scale and have the same velocity as what we’ve had before,” Castile said.
On day two, Nathan Harvey, the DORA lead at Google Cloud, will unveil research from the 2025 DORA report on AI’s impact on software development. The research tackles the common misconception that simply “throwing AI at everything does not necessarily speed up your team,” and in some cases, can actually slow it down. Harvey’s talk will explore interesting findings on team archetypes and the best mix of AI use for maximum productivity gains.
Ultimately, “The Builder’s Era” is about more than just tools; it’s about a cultural shift, cementing the developer’s role at the forefront of the business and ensuring they are fully engaged in the entire life cycle of software.
