SD Times news digest: Red Hat OpenShift 4.8 now available, GitHub Container registry generally available, MongoDB achieves FedRAMP status

Red Hat OpenShift 4.8 helps organizations quickly create new cloud-native applications without having to abandon their existing environments and IT investments.

One new feature is IPv6/IPv4 dual stack and IPv6 single stack support, which provides applications with interoperability and communications for environments that use IPv6 and IPv4 such as in Cloud-Native Network Functions.

Also, OpenShift Pipelines now allow users to declaratively define, version and track changes to their applications next to their source code in Git repositories. Users also get an enhanced developer experience within the OpenShift console, an OpenShift Serverless functions capability, and OpenShift sandboxed containers.

GitHub Container registry generally available

The Container registry is now generally available as part of GitHub Packages, adding capabilities for organizations and developers to work with containers.

The Docker registry has been consolidated into the Container registry as part of the general availability. Previously published Docker containers to ‘docker.pkg.github.com’ will automatically be migrated to the Container registry in the coming weeks.

The usage of the Container registry will continue to be free and billing for Container registry usage will begin in the coming months.

MongoDB achieves FedRAMP status

MongoDB today announced that it has been approved as FedRAMP Ready for Agency Authorization for its new document database service MongoDB Atlas for Government.

The new offering provides a way for organizations to deploy, operate and scale MongoDB for modern applications, while meeting data security and privacy standards.

“Agencies, developers, and the ISVs that serve them need to build modern applications that can quickly adapt to rapidly changing mission needs without worrying about scale and security. Too often government administrators are bogged down, wasting time and resources with second-rate technologies, sacrificing innovation in an attempt to meet rigorous security standards,” said Brent Leech, vice president of public sector at MongoDB.

In addition, a vulnerability was found in Apache Airflow that involved user enumeration in database authentication in Flask-AppBuilder in version 3.2.3.

Difference between Web Designer and Web Developer Neeraj Mishra The Crazy Programmer

Have you ever wondered about the distinctions between web developers’ and web designers’ duties and obligations? You’re not alone! Many people have trouble distinguishing between these two. Although they collaborate to publish new websites on the internet, web developers and web designers play very different roles. To put these job possibilities into perspective, consider the construction of a house. To create a vision for the house, including the visual components, the space planning and layout, the materials, and the overall appearance and sense of the space, you need an architect. That said, to translate an idea into a building, you need construction professionals to take those architectural drawings and put them into practice. Image Source In a similar vein, web development and design work together to create websites. Let’s examine the major responsibilities and distinctions between web developers and web designers. Let’s get going, shall we? What Does a Web Designer Do?

2022: The year of hybrid work

Remote work was once considered a luxury to many, but in 2020, it became a necessity for a large portion of the workforce, as the scary and unknown COVID-19 virus sickened and even took the lives of so many people around the world.  Some workers were able to thrive in a remote setting, while others felt isolated and struggled to keep up a balance between their work and home lives. Last year saw the availability of life-saving vaccines, so companies were able to start having the conversation about what to do next. Should they keep everyone remote? Should they go back to working in the office full time? Or should they do something in between? Enter hybrid work, which offers a mix of the two. A Fall 2021 study conducted by Google revealed that over 75% of survey respondents expect hybrid work to become a standard practice within their organization within the next three years.  Thus, two years after the world abruptly shifted to widespread adoption of remote work, we are declaring 20
