IBM has announced that wastonx is generally available and has begun its rollout to enterprises. Watsonx is an AI and data platform that was first unveiled by IBM at the IBM Think conference in May.  Watsonx consists of three parts: watsonx.ai, which is a studio for building foundation models, generative AI, and machine learning wastonx.data, which is a data store watsonx.governance, which is a toolkit for building AI workflows with “responsibility, transparency, and explainability.” The first two components are now available and the governance toolkit is expected to be available later in the year.  The platform was designed to help companies overcome challenges associated with scaling AI workloads, such as pervasive data volume, complexity, cost, and governance challenges. JetBrains has announced the release of Kotlin 1.9. This release introduces many enhancements, a big one being the beta release of the K2 compiler for the JVM.  The K2 compiler is a new frontend compiler that is planned to be released in Kotlin 2.0 as stable. AWS has announced a few major updates to its Application Migration Service, which helps simplify and expedite the process of migrating applications to AWS.  One of the new updates is Global View, which allows admins to manage migrations across multiple different accounts. It uses AWS Organizations to create management accounts, which can access servers from multiple accounts, and member accounts, which can only access their own source servers.  Global View can be used to accomplish several tasks related to migration, such as launching test and cutover instances across accounts and monitoring migration execution progress across accounts.  The next major update is the ability to import and export from a local disk. Instagram users can now share text and other forms of content through the company’s new app, Threads.  “Whether you’re a creator or a casual poster, Threads offers a new, separate space for real-time updates and public conversations. We are working toward making Threads compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that we believe can shape the future of the internet,” Instagram wrote in a blog post announcing the platform.  Current Instagram users will be prompted to claim their Threads username and download the app when they login to Instagram. Usernames and other verification methods will carry over, and there are also options to import your profile picture, bio, and followed accounts.  Posts can be up to 500 characters —  220 more than Twitter’s current 280 character limit. Microsoft is about to make it possible to call .NET Framework code from workflows in Azure Logic Apps , a low-code iPaaS solution for creating and running automated workflows.  Currently in preview, the new functionality will give developers flexibility and control in solving integration problems without having to add additional service plans into their environment.  According to Microsoft, the ability to use .NET Framework code is helpful in scenarios like implementing custom business logic, custom parsing, data validation, message shaping, calculations, and simple data transformations. Open VSX Registry is an open source alternative to the Visual Studio Marketplace. Developers can use it to search for extensions for editors that support VS code extensions, such as Eclipse Che, Eclipse Theia, Salesforce Code Builder, Google Cloud Workstations, Gitpod, and SAP Business Application Studio.   It was created by the Eclipse Foundation. Companies can contribute their own extensions to the registry, and the registry can also be self-hosted internally to give developers access to extensions.  The registry currently has about 3,000 extensions from over 1,500 different publishers. Since the project’s release in 2021, over 40 million extensions have been downloaded, with over 2 million being downloaded every month.  Recently the Eclipse Foundation announced that because of significant growth to the project, they would be forming a working group around the project.
